Cape League Will Have a Southern Drawl

Sports Illustrated published its college baseball preview this weekend. If SI is correct with its predictions, Cape Cod is going to hear a lot of southern accents this summer. Nine of the top 10 teams, according to SI, are from the South and 12 of the top 16 teams are southern colleges. Highlights of the SI analysis are:
- “And, of course, the star of the show is first baseman Justin Smoak, [See our CodBall Conversation with Justin] perhaps the nation’s most talented player.”
- Brad Chalk (Clemson and Falmouth) gets a mention as leader of #2 Clemson.
- #8 Tulane is loaded with Falmouth players. “Warren McFadden will see some of his many doubles turn to home runs while Aja Barto should begin to match his hype. The pitching staff added a huge arm in Cape Cod League star Shooter Hunt, giving the Green Wave a deep, underrated pitching staff.”
- Sam Demel, Mitch Canham, Edie Kunz and other Cape players fill out the SI preview.

I’m sure North Carolina will be well represented also once the Chatham roster is released. I think Wareham has 2 Tar Heals now. YD has 3 kids from University of Georgia.
