MVP Smoak Recruited to Join Team USA

logo_usa_baseball.gifAs the Cape’s opening day draws nearer, so does Team USA’s recruitment of top Cape talent. The Charleston, SC. Post and Courrier reported yesterday that CCBL MVP Justin Smoak of the South Carolina Gamecocks will play for Team USA, not the Cape this summer.

Smoak is quoted as saying “the Cape was great, but I want to try something different.”

Anyone care to take a stab at some other potential USA invitees that are signed to play on the Cape?

    I’ll throw out a couple:

    Mark Sobelewski - Miami (Orleans)
    Mikie Minor - Vanderbilt (Wareham)
Brett Wallace - Arizona State (Falmouth)
Buster Posey - Florida State (YD)
    Bradley Suttle - Texas (Wareham)
    Tyson Ross - Cal-Berkley (Brewster)

I’m not sure who is draft eligible so that may change my opinion but these guys are having great seasons.

CapeMan, I would say your list is very accurate. I’ll take a look at some other players and will add to this, but I’m not expecting to see Dustin Ackley (North Carolina) in Chatham this year.

I think Suttle is draft eligible and I’m not sure how USA looks at those players so he may come to the Cape and then sign. Ackley reminded me of Federowicz, the catcher at UNC who I believe is also on Chatham…he may also be a candidate for USA.

I heard that Brian Matusz will also be on Team USA…No idea if he was ever listed on a Cape roster but is the top sophomore pitcher in the country.
