Falmouth Commodores: What the F?
Posted by Greg | Filed Under News |
The Falmouth Commodores are of two minds. In 2005, the team was represented by a bold, red scripted “F” against a black background. In 2006, the Commodores sported a scripted “FC” in two-tone white-top with burgundy bill.
Last season, team management told me they were going back to the solo “F,” and the Commodores online store seems to support that decision. Looks like F it is.
So what the F would you pick?

I think I would say I like the black and maroon cap…It just looks a whole lot more classier than the white one…
I agree with Shawn. I vote for the black cap with the maroon “F”. It isn’t a great cap though. They should be able to do better.
I’m really dating myself here, but does anyone remember when Falmouth’s colors were green and gold ? I would say it was in the mid ’70’s. Yes, I was VERY young !
By the way, my vote for worst cap in the league goes to Wareham. That “W” is just plain ugly.
Best cap ? I still have to go with Y-D. Very nice design of the outline of Cape Cod with the “Sox” through it. Very popular seller too.
I’ll give you the ugly “W” but their road shirts are great..the deep red/cranberry colored shirt might be the best road shirt in the league.
I’m not a big fan of the teams that are named after MLB team…Red Sox, A’s, Mets, Braves… I prefer the names of teams that are unique to the Cape and the area…The Whitecaps, The Gatemen, The Kettleers. I tend to like those uniforms and associate those teams with the Cape much more than the others. At least Chatham uses different colors than the Oakland A’s.
The Wareham road jerseys are very nice.
Chatham’s white home pinstripes are a classic uniform. They should wear them at home every game and wear the gray tops on the road. They should do away with the blue shirts.
Orleans’ home uniforms have a nice look. I like the white “vest” with the red sleeves.
Worst uniform ? Y-D when they wear those navy blue shirts with the logo on the left chest. They look like batting practice shirts, not game jerseys.
I agree with CapeMan about the names that are unique to Cape Cod although I don’t believe the Chatham A’s are named after the Oakland A’s. I think it is just taken from the Chatham Athletic Association.
Here I go showing my age again but many years ago, the Orleans Cardinals wore blue and white. Even as a kid, I could never understand why a team named the Cardinals would wear blue.
It’s fun to browse through Dan Crowley’s Baseball on Cape Cod book. The book is a historical archive of teams and players dating back to the 1800s. Page 97 has a photo of the Commodores in 1991 when they wore a logo featuring a baseball inside a ship’s wheel. Mark Loretta played for that team.
I have many of the Cape hats lined up in my home office. As I look at them there above the sofa, I confess a preference for the more vintage looks of Cotuit and even Wareham. Y-D looks like a Single-A ball club logo to me.
The Falmouth Commodores are designing a NEW Home hat for the 2008 season!
Go Commodores.
I’ll be at Saturday’s Commodores game wearing my trusty FC cap but I also have an F cap. What to wear?
