Volunteers Needed for Cape All-Star Game
Posted by Greg | Filed Under News |
The Wareham community is looking for volunteers for this year’s Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL) All-Star Game on Saturday, July 28th at Spillane Field.
Newspapers are running pleas for help, including an email if you or someone you know is willing to help. Email scotte_1999@yahoo.com if you have suggestions.
The game is expected to attract 5,000 fans.

Not sure how much of a “plea” that was…just a request from the community to volunteer their time for a couple of hours. Remember, this league is comprised of 100% volunteers from an adminstrative and organizational standpoint and they pride themselves on that fact. Asking for volunteers is nothing new. In typical Gatemen fashion, they are out in front of this issue. Past All-Star games have lacked volunteers and their is a mad scramble the week before the game to get folks from the different franchises to volunteer for the game.
By the way…take a look at the Wareham site…they did a video stream last night of a high school game. I didn’t see it but they are doing another one on Thursday.
Where did the info come from that the Wareham organization “is looking for volunteers to host players for this year’s Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL) All-Star Game” ? I didn’t see that in the linked article and it wouldn’t seem to make any sense. Just wondering what that is all about.
Dave: That was an error. I fixed that, thanks. All players, of course, already have housing for the summer.
CapeMan: I missed the stream too… I plan on checking it out on Thursday. Unfortunately, they are RealPlayer streams, but I’ll take what I can get.
What is wrong with RealPlayer…no good?
I actually just talked with someone who saw part of the stream last night. There were many issues at the beginning which is expected during what is probably just a “trial” broadcast anyway.
I guess the camera angle was behind the fence and that the audio was clearly being tested… Their website was updated continually with messages about the issues they were having which was really helpful. What was interesting was that John Wylde was doing the PA since he could be heard in the background from time to time. The broadcaster was good considering he probably didn’t know much about the high schools playing. He said the video was as expected for a webcast with one camera but there is potential for improvement.

I’m not a big fan of RealPlayer for many reasons… mostly because I am tied to their software (though, there are open source players that can handle RealPlayer files), and the quality doesn’t seem as good as Quicktime or Windows Media streaming. Also, I don’t know if it still does or not, but it usually comes packaged with other crap I don’t need. Also, it is constantly trying to be the default media player.
Did anyone see the Wareham broadcast yesterday? I did for a while. There was no audio at the beginning but after a couple of inning, it was fine. They must have fixed whatever audio issue they had from the first broadcast.
I apparently missed it. I rushed home from work, but the link wasn’t working when I got home. I guess high school games don’t last as long as the major leagues, haha.
I was all done by 5:30 or so…quick game like you said.
