    Cape Cod League (1958-1996)

    Greg and Andrew,

While reading the Standard Times this morning in an article written by Mike Rocha, he made mention of your blog of the Cape Cod League. I clicked on and think it is terrific. Since I have to travel between Mass and Florida frequently, it will be a great way to keep up with League happenings. One reason I am writing you is to inquire if you are able to trace back to earlier dates to locate former players, or know how someone can trace a former player and his leagaue history. I recently spoke on the history of the League to the Foxboro Lions Club and was confronted by a Lion in the audience trying to obtain information on his father, who played in the 1930’s for one of the Lower Cape franchises before World War II. I have been looking through some of the books written on Cape League baseball but have not found any mention of his father. If you have any knowledge where to find old information like I mentioned above, I would appreciate your help.

I look forward to being one of your regular readers.

Hi Jim, welcome to CodBall! You are correct; none of the literature on the Cape League lists all of the former players. The book with the most artifacts from that time period was the Baseball on Cape Cod (Images of Baseball) book. I am fairly certain that the CCBL Hall of Fame does not have full records either, but they may be of some help. I have a feeling the only way to track down more information would be to go down to the town level and talk with town historians.

    Can anyone help Jim out?
