Puddles in Yarmouth (and across the Cape)

Rain Out in Yarmouth“Goliath was struck out by David, A base hit was made on Abel by Cain, and the Prodigal Son made a great home-run. Brother Noah gave checks out for rain.” – Arthur Longbrake

In what would have been the first inning of the Eastern Division Playoff in Yarmouth-Dennis, the only baseball game on Wilson Field was a father and two boys playing catch in right field. The photos you see here are evidence of a complete rainout today in the Cape Cod Baseball League.

Puddles at YarmouthIronically, the Y-D Red Sox website shows a photo of Wilson Field with a big rainbow arching overhead. Ever hopeful!

As Dave reports below, both the Eastern and Western playoffs were postponed due to excessive rain. The CCBL website confirms they are postponed until tomorrow at 3 pm.

A steady rain fell all day from Falmouth to Y-D. I know because I drove the length of the Cape today on a family trip to the National Seashore. Our plan was to run around on the beach before the 3 pm scheduled start. The seashore was beautiful on an otherwise gloomy morning. What began as a light drizzle increased steadily as we made our way through Y-D, Orleans, Harwich, Chatham and Orleans.

The Falmouth broadcasters (I stand corrected, the Bourne Broadcasters!) are to be commended for having a recorded message on the Cape.com cell phone call-in line. I suspected the As-Red Sox game would be rained out, but stopped by anyway to snap some photos.

The field was absolutely drenched. The rain will need to stop soon to enable the diamond to drain and be ready for tomorrow.

I’ll leave the analysis about what this means to prior post.

    Hey,

    I left that recorded message!

    Bourne Baby!

    GO BRAVES!!!

It was much appreciated. I wish that all teams would leave a message on delays, etc. For the average fan driving around in his or her car to games it helps a lot.

I need to remember to put those numbers in my cell. Thanks Greg for letting me know both games were rained out!

    Andrew (Bourne),

While your enthusiasm is greatly appreciated and admired, you might want to tone down the outright favoritism a bit. It is understandable that you are part of the organization and that you root for your team (as do, I’m sure, most broadcasters and other interns around the league), but the fact that you are a journalist means that you need some sense of credibility and objectivity. It’s one thing to get extremely excited on the air during a Bourne win, but it’s another to come on to a blog and cheer on your team. It is, in a sense, a pretty bad form of Homerism.

I hope you don’t take this to be some sort of diatribe against you; rather, it is just some advice. Keep up the enthusiasm for the Braves, however, on the air

Weather is absolutely perfect this morning on the Cape. I’m sure that the games will be played without any concern about rain. Blue skies, no wind, dry air, I guess in the low 70’s at 9:15am.

    My prediction?

Chatham over YD in 3 games. (Chatham must win today however)

    Falmouth over Bourne in 2.

Final: Chatham over Falmouth in 2.

I just feel that Chatham is playing too good right now and I love how Falmouth plays. Game 1, however, is the key in both series. If Chatham can steal one at YD, that is huge. If DJ Mitchell can pitch like he did in Wareham last week, (15 k’s) in an eventual 12 inning, 1-0 loss, Bourne will be in good shape. However, Aaron Crow is going to be a real tough match-up for the Braves.

    Let the games begin!!

    Steve!

I respect all teams in the league!

Falmouth, Chatham, Y-D; best of luck to all three of you!

    Thank you for the advice!

    Listen to the broadcast today!

    Chatham over Bourne in 2
