(Y-D)ynasty

Congratulations to the Y-D Red Sox on their 3rd championship in 4 years (2004, 2006, 2007)! This is a follow-up to Greg’s game summary.

Here are my game notes:

  • Trevor Holder (Georgia) DeliversTrevor Holder (Georgia) was playoff MVP and certainly earned it! He gave up just one hit (to Andrew Giobbi in the 2nd inning) and struck out 10. He came out firing and seemingly got a second wind in the 6th and 7th.
  • Y-D and Falmouth fans fought throughout the game with back-and-forth “Let’s Go Falmouth” and “Let’s Go Red Sox” chants.
  • How about Luke Burnett’s 95mph fastball in the 8th to strikeout Y-D star Gordon Beckham? It just doesn’t get any better than that! Simply amazing.
  • Did Falmouth wait too long to put in Luke Burnett (La Tech)? He was ready at the start of the 8th inning.
  • Y-D Threatening EarlyY-D stranded 7 runners before finally scoring in the 8th. Falmouth had some great defense and pulled off a 4-6-3 double play in the 1st and David Adams (Virginia) made a great basket catch in the 2nd. Jeremy Farrell (Virginia) also made a nice grab in the 7th on an Aaron Luna pop fly.
  • Let’s not forget Gordon Beckham’s diving play in the 4th to throw out Aja Barto (Tulane) at 1st just in time.
  • My playoffs photoset is now complete.

Great video!! You captured the moment perfectly…made me wish I was there.

This was a fun blog all summer. Seems like yesterday when you were waiting for the first couple of teams to post their 2007 rosters!!

We’re already on the hunt for 2008 rosters!

Today (actually midnight) is the NCAA signing deadline. Baseball America is reporting many draftees are still unsigned.

Yes…David Price, who was supposed to play on the Cape and who was the #1 draft choice, has still not signed with Tampa Bay.

Congrats to YD. I’m going to go on a limb here and say that this year’s YD team may be one of the best Cape League teams of all time.

David Price was signed to play in Wareham in both 2006 and 2007 but played for his coach (Tim Corbin) on Team USA last year and obviously is turning pro…perhaps today. His teammate, Mike Minor who is perhaps the best pitcher on Team USA, was also supposed to play in Wareham this season.

I’m sorry…signed to play in 2005 an 2006…not this year.

Price is under control of the Devil Rays — you know, #1 pick by the last place MLB team.

Mike Moustakas (No. 2, Royals) and Matt Wieters (No. 5, Orioles).

    Hi Andrew,
Sorry I didn’t get a chance to meet you at the Championship game. Anyway, Luke Burnett’s heater to fan Beckham in the 8th was amazing. It actually registered at 94 MPH on the gun. I snapped a picture of the radar reading of the pitch. It’s posted on page two of TheCapeLeague.com photo album. Great job to CodBall.com for a terrific season of blogging the best summer baseball league in America. My compliments!
