CodBall Conversation: Cape MVP Conor Gillaspie (Wichita State & Falmouth Commodores)
Posted by Greg | Filed Under Codball Conversations |
Conor Gillaspie, the Cape Cod Baseball League’s 2007 MVP and batting champion, spoke with CodBall early on a recent September morning from the athletic department of the Wichita State University Shockers. Listen to our latest CodBall Conversation.
Conor, an articulate and thoughtful collegiate player, also is the #13 pro prospect in the nation and he comes from the nation’s #13 ranked college program.
Everything about this kid points to serious baseball.
We talked with Conor about Wichita State’s phenomenal bid in the College World Series and his experience playing with this year’s runner-up in the Cape league, the Falmouth Commodores. He gives his perspectives on whether the CCBL is for show or competition and whether it’s a pitcher’s league or a hitter’s league.
Justin Smoak, the Cape’s 2006 MVP, also spoke with CodBall earlier this year.

Hello Cod Ballers,
I recently opened a Flickr.com account and was able to upload 500 or so of the best photos I took during the 2007 CCBL season, including several of Connor Gillespie. Additional uploading will continue for a little while longer (I think I snapped about 7000 photos in total). Anywauy, I just thought that I’d let you know about the photos because you do such a good job covering the Cape League, that I thought you’d enjoy them. Check them out at Flickr.com. My Flikr ID is CapeHomepage.com. Enjoy!
Thanks, Joseph. Do you mind if we occassionally use your photos on CodBall? We’ll credit your work.
Hi Greg,
Thanks for your interest in my photos. I think there’s a way to make something work. Do you think that you could give me a call next week some time? You can easily find my contact info on CapeHomepage.com. I’d love to chat.
Thanks Joe!
Here’s the link to the photos for anyone who wants to check them out:

Some really great shots there that definitely make me want an SLR for next season!
Thanks for the compliments, Andrew. I’m still uploading photos from games that I was able to attend. It will likely take me about another week or two to get them all up on the site. Enjoy!!
Thanks again Joe. It would be cool to give tags to the photos (e.g. “falmouthcomoodores” for photos of falmouth players) and to also name as many players as you can (I know how hard that is, especially if you can’t find the roster from the game and if the number isn’t on the roster–or there are two of the same numbers!).
You can also get a Flickr ID so people can go to

in addition to http://flickr.com/photos/11649693@N07/
I think you do that on your Flickr profile page.
Hi Andrew,
I have included tags on most of the photos. Additionally, they can be searched in a variety of ways (player name, type of play, such as bunt, steal, etc., team, date) and they come up in searches based on the words in the descriptions that I’ve included on the photos. I have labled almost all of the photos and included player names as much as possible. Actually, if anyone knows who Number 2 for the Chatham A’s was in the photo entitled “Good Pitch,” I’d love to know who it is. I have a 2007 CCBL Media Guide that lists most players and their numbers, but not all. There are several additional photos wherein I haven’t been able to identify the player, but Number 2 for Chatham is perplexing me to no end. Anyway, I have about 200 photos to go before the 2007 set is complete. I’m still getting familiar with Flickr.com, so hopefully I will organize the photos even more in the weeks ahead.
Joe
Hi Andrew and Greg,
For the record, the 2007 set is complete (except for adding some player names, colleges, etc.) The SLR weapon of choice was a Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L-Series IS Zoom lens mounted on a Canon Digital Rebel xti. A little pricey, but great for shooting Cape League action. So, I’m still at a loss for a few player names. Particularly Number 2 for the Chatham A’s, and a pitcher, Number 15, for the Bourne Braves. Any help from CodBall.com readers on player names on photos that don’t have them would be welcomed.
Enjoy the photos!!!
