Do we know these players?

Posted by Greg | Filed Under News |

A report from the Coastal Plain League (another summer collegiate baseball league) indicates that 5 players from the CPL HiToms are headed for the Cape next summer.  I’ll have to do some more research on these guys.

Here is the relevant paragraph from the North Carolina newspaper:

It will be a challenge for the HiToms to win a third straight CPL championship because five of their best players won’t be back. Richard Jones, Rich Poythress, Garrett Gore, Kyle Roller and Wade Broyles are headed to the Cape Cod League this summer, Suire said.

Well this is interesting. None of them are Gatemen. None of the other teams have made available ‘08 rosters. This may be a mystery for a while without talking to the players or Cape teams.

My guess is tha Garret Gore would be in Chatham considering the connection with UNC..perhaps Harwich.

I wish more teams would post their rosters. I know that each player has to return paper work but clearly, the Wareham players have returned their paper work.

The Hi-Toms are the best organization in the CPL, period.

I was the voice of Thomasville in 2006 before heading to Bourne last season.

They have a history of sending guys to Bourne. Studs such as D.J. Mitchell, Brett Basham, Justin Henry and Will Kline all suited up for the Braves.

My guess is that Garratt Gore will go to Chatham, Poythress will head to Y-D and that Roller and Broyles will head to Bourne.

Richard Jones is a solid catcher, he might also be a Brave or a Mariner. But don’t quote me on that. I haven’t asked the front-office what the new roster looks like yet.

Hope all is well with everyone!

Very informative. It would be fun to piece together rosters based on scattered reports like this. I think we did that for Orleans last year if I’m not mistaken.

As always, thanks for the contributions.

Andrew G., will you go for a professional broadcasting gig next season?

    Greg,

I’m shooting for a professional gig.

Hopefully things will turn out well!

    But the Cape is great:)

Hope all is well with you and your family Greg,

    Andrew

Good luck. You should come out and broadcast some of the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League games. They seem to be gearing up.

Today is the day John Wylde is having surgery. We’ll have to check the Wareham website to see if there are updates later today.

My “guess” would be pretty much in line with Andrew G.
Jones may well end up in Harwich. The Mariners have had other players from The Citadel in the past.
Poythress will likely be at Y-D.
Gore could be another Tar Heel who ends up in Chatham but the A’s expect to have Kyle Seager back in ‘08. Seager played 2B for Chatham this past summer and Gore has played some 2B at UNC so that makes it a bit less certain that Gore is coming to Chatham. If not Chatham, Harwich is another possibility.
Roller is likely destined for Bourne. Another possibility is Falmouth although I don’t think the Commodores have had anyone from E.C.U. for a few years now.
I agree that Broyles will be a Brave next summer. If he doesn’t end up in Bourne, Chatham could be in the mix.
There isn’t much certainty in any of this because I’m just going by which Cape League teams have had strong connections to some of these players’ schools in the past. It makes for interesting conversation though !
