Congratulations, John Wylde

The Cape Cod Baseball League inducts John Wylde of the Wareham Gatemen into the league’s hall of fame on Saturday, Nov. 3rd, at 10:30 am Eastern at the Chatham Bars Inn in Chatham, MA. We understand the ceremony is being broadcast from the CCBL website.
Mr. Wylde, whose cancer was recently determined to be inoperable, reportedly will not be present but will say a few words via speakerphone from his hospital room at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston.
Mr. Wylde was a last minute addition to this season’s slate of Hall of Fame inductees. This is an unprecedented statement by the league for a man who has personified the dignity and professionalism that are the hallmarks of the most important summer baseball league in the world.
“John’s contributions to the Cape League and the Wareham franchise are innumerable. His meticulous strive for perfection is seen in every committee and every aspect of the league with which John is associated”, said Cape League President Judy Walden Scarafile. “He is a true aficionado of the game, a game he loves beyond explanation. There is no one more deserving of this honor”.
This blog has been an enthusiastic fan of Mr. Wylde’s work since the very first post on Oct. 10, 2006. Many of you have left comments about Mr. Wylde’s contributions, treating CodBall almost like a get well card.
In tribute, we will reprise our CodBall Conversation with John Wylde from June 6th, just before the start of the 2007 season.
John, I hope you will do us the favor of another conversation sometime when you feel up to it. On behalf of all CodBall readers and contributors, thank you and may God bless, you.

I watched a little of the Hall of Fame ceremony today. The broadcast was a good quality, though I had to try several times to get on.
It ran long as can be expected.
Unfortunately I did not hear Mr. Wylde’s comments. Did anyone else?
I didn’t either but I caught up on the course of events with the article in the CC Times.
In addition to that, Baseball America has a piece on John Wylde and the Harvard University website has a great piece on their front page. They are all on the Gatemen website…here is the Harvard piece.
