A new look in Falmouth

Posted by Greg | Filed Under News |

We’ve had a little fun over the past year or so watching my home team, the Falmouth Commodores, choose which logo it will sport on its hat each season.  Well, General Manager Dan Dunn has confirmed for CodBall readers that by popular demand the Commodores team is dropping the ‘C’ so that the ‘F’ for Falmouth can stand alone.  For the past couple of seasons the team has donned, “FC” atop its sombrero.

I started to title this: “Falmouth cuts the ‘C’” to accompany my previous headline, “What the ‘F’?'  But I decided otherwise.

The Commodores will keep its basic look this season.  Falmouth will have three uniforms – the traditional black for the road, white sleeveless for home and a light weight maroon for Sundays and hot days.

Dan reports the team will introduce a new home uniform in 2009.

He also noted the team will hit with pink bats on June 28th against the Y-D Red Sox in support of cancer research.  Both teams will sell the pink bats at auction to raise money for cancer research.  Thanks, Homer!

Good choice dropping the “C” ! I’m a traditionalist (that’s another way of saying that I’m old) and I like the single-letter look better.
In general, I’m not a big fan of black as a base color. The trend started a number of years ago when many teams, in all sports, seemed to feel a need to include black or teal in their choice of colors. I like the maroon and white combination. The Commodores home uniforms are pretty classy. I’m not a huge fan of the away uniforms but, hey, that’s just me.
That is a great gesture by Falmouth and Y-D to auction the pink bats for cancer research.

I like the “F” also so I am glad they made the switch…plus anyone who bought an “FC” hat last year will have to have a new “F” hat this year right? Nice revenue opportunity.

I read on the Wareham site a while back that they are also changing their hat style. Same colors but a smaller “W” on a “flex-fit”/”mesh” style hat that is “of the times”.

Also…I was in Hyannis yesterday and I’ll admit that I haven’t been by any other CCBL fields recently but that place is a mess!! The covers on homeplate and the pitcher’s mound had been blown off, their were sections of the outfield fence missing and apparently from lighting contruction, the right field area looks like a mud bath. I’m sure they will pull it all together for the opener but it was quite a shock to me.

Don’t be alarmed about Mckeon Park Capeman, we have a plan and will be ready for opening day. We have installed our lights, constructed new bleachers in left field, and are installing irrigation in the outfield. We have many other exciting projects planned before opening day! Check out our website for more details. If anyone has an in with the weatherman, a week or two without rain would be nice.
