Day 23: Bourne @ Hyannis–Game on!
Posted by Andrew | Filed Under Games | 8 Comments
Just a quick update live from Hyannis:
The rain seems to have passed, but the Braves secured the lead back in the 3rd. Dusty Coleman (Wichita State) hit a 2-run triple and Stephen Batts (East Carolina) followed with a 2-run double. The score is 5-0 Bourne in the 5th. Hyannis fireworks are still scheduled after the game.
UPDATE (10:00pm):
Bourne wrapped up this game 6-1, after Hyannis salvaged a run in the 9th inning rain. To top it off, the fireworks from Hyannis harbor were masked by clouds. Overall, a disappointing night. But, I’m not one to complain about free entertainment.

Almost a no hitter in Wareham tonight. Brandon Workman took a no hitter into the 9th and then gave up a single with one out. He finished with 13 strikeouts and gave up only two hits. Wareham won 4-0.
Workman is the best pitcher in the league this year, hands down.
Andrew, your photo of the lights is another keeper. Each year our tech-savvy co-creator at CodBall comes up with Ansel Adams skills.
Thanks Greg–Eric took most of the photos, but I took that one! I wanted to get a shot of the new lights, but I didn’t get a chance till the very end.
Right Field fog has a good piece on the Workman almost no-hitter and the Gatemen site has some good picture of that game on their photo page.
Did anyone catch the news that Alex White will not be pitching in Chatham due to having pitched too many innings this year? That is too bad…reminds me of the Scott Gorgen situation last year. Be interesting to see if he ends up throwing a few innings for Team USA when inevitibly an arm or two is bound to get tired.
The A’s have taken a big hit in the last week. In addition to White not coming to Chatham, they have also lost outfielders Aaron Miller, Dylan Brown and Devin Lohman (batting .341 with 12 RBI in 13 games) to injury. They have added 1B/C Yan Gomes (Tennessee) and Gabe Cohen (UCLA) to their roster.
Dave…I saw that…but I think that team is going to battle. They beat Cotuit tonight and are slowly looking much better. Brewster looks strong in that division but I see Chatham right there with them until the end. With YD falling every day and Orleans struggling offensively (except tonight), the A’s might be the team to watch.
