Things just got a little more interesting in the West. In the first-ever CCBL game played at the new Martha’s Vineyard HS field, Wareham beat Falmouth this afternoon by a score of 6-1.

Wareham has now won five in a row. The Gatemen beat Falmouth 9-7 two days ago. Falmouth had won the first three meetings between the teams.

Wareham has gotten themselves into playoff consideration.  Going into this evening’s games, Hyannis and Bourne have 34 pts., Falmouth has 33 pts., slumping Cotuit sits at 31 pts. and Wareham now has 29 pts.

Falmouth hosts steaking Harwich at Fuller Field on Wednesday and Thursday. Harwich is 7-1 in their last eight games. Wednesday’s game is one of the two games in hand that Falmouth has on their divisional rivals. After a day off tomorrow, Wareham hosts Orleans on Thursday. With time off for the All Star break, the Gatemen do not play again until Monday when Hyannis goes to Spillane Field.

No, I wasn’t at the game. I listened to much of it also. Just thought I would report the score due to the impact it could have on the playoff scenario. Having won only 9 of their first 29 games, it would have been easy for Wareham to pack it in. It’s good to see them battling and making things interesting.
