ORLEANS — Falmouth’s closer Ben Tootle (Jacksonville St.) came in with one man on base in the 7th with the Commodores leading 4-3. With a 98 mph fastball and a deceptive curveball he proceeded to retire Orleans batter after batter to get the save and keep the Commodores alive in the West.

Orleans already had clinched the East with a victory over the Commodores last night in Falmouth.

Darin Ruff (Falmouth/Creighton) got an insurance homerun in the 8th to complete a 5-3 victory over Orleans tonight.

The Cape League’s West remains tight as a drum.  Cotuit beat Wareham to remain in first place in the West with 46 points.  Falmouth trails by a single point (45) and Hyannis is in 3rd (44).  Bourne also won and is in 4th with 43 points.

Wareham plays at Falmouth tomorrow.  Hyannis is at Cotuit.  Then on  Thursday, the final game of the regular season, Falmouth is at Hyannis. Plenty of drama in the West.

I’m watching the Wareham broadcast. Are they the only team that has two cameras — one behind the plate and one from the 1st base side. That’s a nice effect to show behind and the side.

I am watching that too. They mentioned a couple times early in the game that the New Bedford Cable Access is there broadcasting the game and they were able to run a cable to their broadcast truck. Very cool stuff…even with replays.

Hyannis lost and with the Cotuit and Falmout win today, that is a big game in Cotuit tomorrow.
