Hyannis at Cotuit postponed until 11 am tomorrow
The race for who’s best in the West will have to wait another day. So will the race for number 2 in the East.
Because of heavy rains today, the CCBL schedule has taken more twists and turns for its final day of the regular season than RT 28. Here is the current schedule for tomorrow (the final day of the regular season):
Hyannis @ Cotuit 11 am
Chatham @ Wareham 1 pm
Harwich @ Brewster 4:30 pm
Cotuit @ YD 4:30
Falmouth @ Hyannis 7 pm
Chatham @ Orleans 7 pm
Bourne @ Wareham 7 pm
Tonight’s Wareham at Falmouth game apparently is still on.
IMPORTANT UPDATE (from Hyannis website)
Wednesday afternoon’s game at Cotuit has been postponed due to rain. It will be made up on Thursday, August 7 at Lowell Park at 11 a.m. Hyannis’ regularly scheduled game with Falmouth at 7 p.m. will go on as planned.

From the Orleans Cardinals website: “The start time of the Cardinals game against the Harwich Mariners has been pushed to 8:00pm EDT because of rainy weather in the area. Stay tuned to OrleansCardinals.com for more details as they become available.” Thank-you to the Cardinals organization for posting this information. They posted a similar announcement on Sunday when there was going to be a delayed start to their game in Bourne. Unfortunately, neither Bourne nor Harwich has shown the same concern for the fans.
From the Chatham A’s website: “Wednesday night’s game between the A’s and Whitecaps at Veterans Field has been pushed back one hour to 8pm. Rainy conditions have created a sloppy playing surface requiring extra work from the A’s grounds crew. No additional percipitation is forecast.” There is no update on the Brewster site.
Falmouth is broadcasting…6:48…looks like a ceremony going on on the first base line. Looks like that game vs. Wareham is a go.
The Eastern division race could be decided tonight. If Harwich defeats Orleans, they will clinch. Also, if Harwich loses, the loser of Brewster/Chatham will be eliminated from playoff contention.
The Wareham website just posted this:
“Just in: AJ Pollock (Notre Dame) has been name the Most Valuable Player of the Cape Cod Baseball League.”
That is a well deserved honor for a player who has performed so well and consistently over the course of the season. Pollock goes into tonight’s game with a .370 average, 22 RBI, and 10 stolen bases. He seems to do many things well. The 22 RBI are more impressive when you consider that he was Falmouth’s leadoff hitter for much of the season.
My guess would be that the MVP voting was close. Marc Krauss (Ohio) and Grant Green (USC) are players who come to mind who would have been Pollock’s closest competition for the award. Hyannis’ Chris Dominguez (Louisville) and Ben Paulsen (Clemson ) also deserve consideration, but in the case of the Mets players, a sub-.300 average isn’t going to win an MVP award.
This is the second year in a row that a Commodore has won the MVP award. Conor Gillaspie (Wichita State) was last year’s winner.
A good game in Falmouth tonight. Commodores battled by lost 5-3 to Wareham.
I had on the Orleans at Harwich game but it looks like it was called early?
Grant Green was given the pro prospect award.
I watched the Falmouth game also. Falmouth got a little sloppy late and Tootle looked tired after going long the night before.
Dave, if Harwich or Bourne had no concern for their fans, they wouldn’t have bothered spending all afternoon getting their fields ready to play a baseball game. Pretty ignorant comment on your part from an outsider.
I think when it comes to the websites it is a simple matter of who each team has to actually update the sites and how close they are to what is going on within the franchise. Certain franchises obviously have the ability to get information posted quickly. (i.e. Wareham, Chatham, Cotuit)
Others may be at the mercy of someone who can’t get the PC until after work, or until they get to the field, whatever. Bourne has been more active with their site than compared to past years. Harwich, while having a new site, is generally very poor at providing website updates.
Good comeback Wickerman,
If Dave is so concerned with Harwich and Bourne not having time to update their respective websites…maybe those same VOLUNTEERS
I’ll agree to disagree with The Wicker Man. I think we all know that these folks are volunteers and they all have “real” jobs that take precedence. The only point I’m making is that I don’t think it is asking for too much to hope that someone could have taken literally two minutes to type one sentence on their website regarding the delayed start times. After all, my ignorance might have caused me to go to the game at 7:00, not knowing that the start time had been pushed back. I didn’t go, but I guess that just would have been tough luck for me though. In fairness, Harwich did post a notice on their site a little later.
whoops, hit wrong button before I finished:-)
Good comeback Wickerman,
If Dave is so concerned with Harwich and Bourne not having time to update their respective websites…maybe those same VOLUNTEERS were actually on the field with rakes making those fields game ready. Sorry to put you through so much agony Dave. I’m guessing you are from Chatham or at least close by.
BTW, Its been my experience in life that the people that complain the most do the least!
You didn’t even go to a game and you’re complaining???
Dave, I know of at least 2 people who had to take vacation time from work so they could leave their jobs early to spend four hours in the mud to get one of those fields ready. I apologize if you are too lazy to check in to the FREE broadcasting vehicles that the teams pay for to see if a game is on or not. I see your point, but you are sounding like a complete ignorant jerk here. People busted their asses so those games could be played last night and didn’t get a nickel for it so fans like you can watch a baseball game.
Well, since The Wicker Man is an “insider” while I’m an “outsider,” it’s good to get that perspective.
As for my location, no it’s not quite close to Chatham. I’m about 25 miles west of Boston and about an hour and a quarter from the Bourne Bridge which, considering the weather, is why I made the somewhat rational decision to not go to yesterday’s games.
Dave, a lot of people who you’ll never meet work 12 months a year so fans can enjoy free baseball on Cape Cod. I understand your frustration with the websites, but you have to realize how hard people work on their own time just to put the game on. No reason to take a shot at any organization, IMHO.
You’re right. I understand that a lot of people put in a lot of time as a labor of love for the league and they have my utmost respect. I can see why you would take it that way, but my comment was intended to “tweak” the organizations but not meant to “take a shot.” What I’m trying to say is that it wasn’t meant to be as heavy-handed as it may have come across. I don’t mean for this to sound like “poor me”, or that I’m the only one this affects, but for people such as myself who have to travel more than an hour to get to Bourne or Wareham, and closer to two hours to get to games further down Cape, it is sometimes frustrating to not be able to get updated information.
I will say this…. I DO think the league as a whole could do a better job at getting information to the fans in regards to rain-outs, delays, rescheduled games, etc. They have purposely tried to appeal to a broader audience and have succeeded based on the rising attendance figures. With that comes some responsibilty to those that you rely on to boost those attendance numbers.
The league website hardly ever has timely information and that really should be the place for updated, breaking news. Does the site even have scores until the next day and that is through a link to the stats service.
Overall, they do the best they can but I do think they should take advantage of the resources they have to get the information out regarding schedule changes and also perhaps change their mindset some and recognize the fact that people are relying on those sources for accurate and updated information.
Capeman, the League is worried about the “League”, not so much the franchises. Their website is an absolute joke in my opinion.
Also, the league doesn’t decide rainouts prior to gametime, its the home franchise working in conjunction with the road team.
Sure…but even so…most fans are going to go the the league site to get the schedule and other information. It only makes sense to put that information there. My point is that it SHOULD be better as I don’t like it either.
The league may not decide the rainouts but they are certainly notified.
