Table is (almost) Set for Cape League Playoffs

Posted by Greg | Filed Under News |

The results are in (sort of).  The 2008 Cape League playoffs are — largely — decided tonight:

EAST:  Orleans Cardinals v. Harwich Mariners

WEST:  Cotuit Kettleers v.  the winner of a Falmouth v. Bourne tie-breaker which will be played at 7 pm on Friday at Falmouth.  Both Falmouth and Bourne won tonight, which means they end the regular season tied for 2nd with 47 points.

The winner of tonight’s game is going to be in a huge disadvantage vs. red-hot Cotuit because their pitching staffs look to be in shambles.

I’m predicting a close Bourne victory tonight setting up a pair of hot teams facing off in the playoffs over the weekend.

    Shambles??

    Huge disadvantage??

C’mon, all the players are tired and the pitching staffs will be OK. As long as the pitchers are well managed (at least one of the two teams playing tonight are), then to play an extra game to get to Cotuit is not the end of the world and I doubt tomorrow’s 1st game will end 14-1 or something like that.

Long time no see Cod Ball. As I’ve always stated, this site is influential to the credibility of the Cape Cod League. You guys do a tremendous job of analyzing and describing how incredible the most prestigious summer collegiate league is.

Wasn’t able to work in Bourne this summer because I got a job in Minor League Baseball. Am an Account Executive and the On-Field-Host for the Lake County Captains in the South Atlantic League.

Just wanted to wish the Bourne Braves the best of luck in their quest of a championship. Having lost to Falmouth last year in the playoffs, it truly is the Braves time to shine.

Winning five-in-a-row to secure a chance to go to the playoffs is incredible and I truly believe Bourne could take the whole thing, even with the loss of Coleman.

With the new lights, new stadium and a surging tradition of winning, the Braves might finally be crawling out of second-tier Cape Cod League status.

Good to hear from you, Andrew. Bourne has definitely performed well to make it to today’s play-in game.

Congrats on your new gig and best of luck. What big city are you close to in OH?

mikey d, what I meant was Cotuit appears to have an advantage of a rested bullpen and pitching staff that Falmouth or Bourne wouldn’t. I agree on your point about tonight’s pitching staff. It seems that Bourne enters this game in a much better position than Falmouth does on the mound.

I still think Cotuit has to be a huge favorite vs. either of these teams, though.
