Mark Fleury (UNC) has done it again with a walk-off base hit! Harwich have their first championship since 1987. Fleury hit the game winning home run in the All-Star Game. Fleury and Jason Stidham (Florida State) were voted co-playoff MVPs.

Cotuit’s Nick Hernandez (Tennessee) got the better half of a pitcher’s duel tonight in Harwich. Hernandez went 8+ innings before surrendering a triple in the 9th to Harwich’s Joe Sanders (Auburn).

Closer Drew Storen (Stanford) is the losing pitcher. Storen was pitching at 100mph, according to WBZ News Radio 1030.

It is really great to see how excited these kids get to win the CCBL Championship. I don’t know why, but it surprises me each year. For all you hear about how many of these are on the Cape for themselves and due to the fact that they are at the end of grueling stretch of baseball that began back in January for these guys and they are within days of heading right back to college, it is a real testament to the league that these kids hold the CCBL Championship in such high regard.

I read an interview on the Baylor baseball website a while ago that they did with Nick Cassevechia who was the closer for YD last year and played in Wareham the year before. The question was, “What is most memorable moment in your college baseball career?” His answer was, “Winning the Cape Cod Baseball League Championship.” Good stuff.
