Change in Brewster

Apologies in advance if this has already been reported on CodBall. It was reported back on August 13 in the Cape League Insider by Russ Charpentier that Bob Macaluso is out as manager of the Brewster Whitecaps.
I recently returned from a couple weeks on the Cape and have read through the postings and comments on CodBall and did not see this mentioned so I thought I would post this info even though it is apparently “old news.” Here is the story….. “According to commissioner Paul Galop, Brewster Whitecaps manager Bob Macaluso won’t return in 2009. Galop said he didn’t know the reason for the Macaluso-Whitecaps split. Macaluso managed Brewster for six seasons. The Cal-Irvine assistant had a three-game suspension this season after a postgame dispute with an umpire.”
I find it interesting that the announcement of Macaluso’s departure has not been noted on the Whitecaps website but instead was made by the commissioner.

…because the Whitecaps website is terrible and NEVER updated during the offseason.
I wonder if his “exit” has anything to do with what happened early in the season when one player got run over by a truck being driven by another player. Perhaps there is a history of other issues that we are not aware of. Seeing that Mr. Gallup made the “announcement” of his exit, perhaps the decision involved the league as well. The was not the type of news that the league would have been pleased with to open the season.
I have to wonder the same thing, CapeMan. My first thought was that since the suspension was mentioned in the story, that might have had something to do with Macaluso’s departure. I was not aware of the incident so I don’t know how bad it was. Three games doesn’t seem excessive, but 3 games out of 44 would equate to about 11 games in a 162 game MLB season. You don’t see many 11 game suspensions of players or managers for tirades directed toward umpires. Looking at it that way, 3 games is pretty steep, so the incident must have been deemed to have been pretty bad. I couldn’t help but wonder if the B.J. Dail-Ryan Wooley incident factored into this also. One of those players had already been suspended from his college team. This is purely speculation, but I wonder if there was some feedback about the type of individual he recruited to Brewster, and in addition to the in-season suspension, that lead to someone in the league “suggesting” to Brewster that they might want to look for a different manager. We know the league is very conscious of their image, as well they should be.
If you are talking about the kind of player that was recruited and if you are talking about BJ Dail, I can tell you first hand that he was recommended by his college coach, the same one that suspended him, to go to Brewster to play. When rules are broken, it does not make the person a bad person. I would imagine if that were the case then there would be teams everywhere with no players. Also with the incident that happened, one player (Woolley) exercised bad judgement and changed another player’s (BJ’s) life forever. Contrary to media reports, BJ was not at fault in this accident. He was a victim and the last time I checked that also does not prove poor character. So be careful how you judge in public forums.
