Gillaspie Called Up to Giants

Posted by Dave | Filed Under News |

Well, that didn’t take long. The Cape League’s 2007 MVP, Conor Gillaspie (Wichita State; Falmouth), was called up to the San Francisco Giants on Saturday - a mere 93 days after being chosen with the 37th overall pick in the MLB draft. Gillaspie batted .262 in only 26 professional games, split between two teams.

Buster Posey (Florida State; Y-D), the fifth overall pick in June’s draft, has been brought up to the Giants minor league team in San Jose. It may not be long before Posey joins Gillaspie in San Francisco.

Gillaspie has yet to see action with the Giants. When he does, he will likely be at third base making up a left side of the infield that includes shortstop Emmanuel Burriss (Orleans).

    Greetings CCBL fans,

I am please to see that our 2007 CCBL Alum Conor Gillaspie was called up this week to the Giants . I spoke with Conor a few times over the summer as he negotiated his contract. One this was clear throughout his summer with us and this summer while he sat around itching to play baseball. He will be a full time Big League player for years to come. His work etchic and love of the game will overcome any who challenge his defensive skills. Im my nearly 12 years with the Commodores I ahve yet to whitness a harder working player. It is with utmost respect and admiration for Conor that I congratulate him on his quick rise to the Show.

Thanks for your comment, Dan. A reminder to readers that I interviewed Conor almost a year ago to the day. He sounded like a big leaguer even then. Here is the link:

Wow. It’s great to see a comment from the GM of a CCBL team here on CodBall.com. I join CodBall.com, and Mr. Dunn, in congratulating Conor on his meteoric rise to the Bigs. And I wish every CCBL alum, especially Buster Posey, the same success!!
