Playing for Peanuts

Playing for Peanuts is a 10-episode TV series about the 2007 South Coast League’s South Georgia Peanuts. The episodes are now being made available online through iTunes, Youtube, Playingforpeanuts.com, and other video sites.
The Peanuts played in the inaugural season of South Coast League and won the championship, before the franchise called it quits. The South Coast League is still in operation, but suspended the 2008 season.
The Peanuts caused quite a stir when they hired ex-MLB player Wally Backman (Red Sox fans: this guy was an ‘86 Met). Backman was hired as manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks on November 1, 2004, and fired 4 days later due to his checkered past.
As you may have guessed, some of the Peanuts played on the Cape. All players seem to be currently inactive from professional baseball:
- Doc Brooks (OF; Falmouth ‘99-’00
- Steve Garrabants (2B/Utility; Orleans ‘02)
- Note: Left mid-season to join Lancaster JetHawks (Red Sox A+)
- Kyle Keen (OF; Hyannis ‘04)
Here’s episode 1.1 of Playing for Peanuts. Conor Jackson (Arizona Diamondbacks; Bourne ‘01) is in the video:
