Dean, Loup Part of Baseball Rarity
Ex Wareham Gateman Blake Dean and former Falmouth Commodore Aaron Loup were involved in a baseball rarity last night. Blake, batting as the DH, and leftfielder Ryan Schimpf hit back-to-back homeruns not once, but twice, in the same inning as their LSU Tigers beat Tulane 13-2. The four homeruns were part of a 10 run outburst in the fifth inning. Schimpf and Dean hit solo homers after Loup retired the first batter of the inning. D.J. LeMahieu (Harwich ’08) followed Dean’s homerun with a single to knock Loup out of the game. After LSU scored five more runs, and still with only one out, Schimpf hit his second, a two run shot, and Dean followed with his second solo homer of the inning. Dean is now batting .335 and has 10 homeruns, second on the team to...

A CodBall reader recently suggested we host a Cape League enthusiasts gathering at the Baseball Tavern before the All-Star Game at Fenway on July 23. I like the idea and am willing to make the arrangements but I need to know if you will come. If we can get enough fans I will try to get the Cape League brass to make an appearance, and I have some ideas for having a good celebration and some fun. Look, there are more than 500 of you who read this site every week. Hit the comments button for the first time and tell me you’re...
Read MoreCape Leaguer’s Contribute to Duke-B.C. Series
Led by a few recent Cape Leaguer’s, Duke has taken the first two games of the weekend series from Boston College by scores of 12-2 on Friday and 9-2 today. With the wins, the Blue Devils improve to 29-16 (12-11 ACC) while the Eagles fall to 25-17 (10-11 ACC). In a previous post, I noted that Boston College is having a surprisingly solid season but Duke’s pitching has clamped down on B.C. and the Blue Devil bats have been on fire in the first two games of this series. Chris Manno (Harwich ’08) set the tone Friday allowing only 4 hits and 2 runs over 7 innings to improve his record to 4-4. He was helped by the offense provided by Nate Frieman (Orleans ’07, ’08) and Alex Hassan (Orleans ’08, ’09). Frieman continued his torrid...
