The Hyannis Mets were able to pick up a fog-shortened win on Friday night, as they played host to the Bourne Braves in their 2009 Cape Cod League opener. Bourne’s Scott Woodward (Coastal Carolina) led off the game with a single, but the Braves were unable to drive him in. Mets center fielder Jamal Austin (UAB) responded in the bottom half of the first with a leadoff single. He stole second, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and would go on to score later in the inning, giving the Mets a lead which they would never surrender. Austin was the star for the Mets, with 2 hits, 2 stolen bases and a run.
Bourne starter Turner Phelps (James Madison) ended up giving up 4 runs (3 earned) to take the loss. For Hyannis, Austin Hudson (Central Florida) threw 6 strong innings, giving up only 1 run and picked up the win.
