All ten team rosters are now posted. Go to: http://www.capecodbaseball.org/
For anyone interested in getting an early preview of their favorite team, or for those who want to find out who may be coming to the Cape this summer so that you can follow the players through their college season, this is a tremendous addition to the league website.

I agree Dave…great addition to the league website that I feel, quite frankly, could use a HUGE upgrade in terms of design, style and content.
I wonder how Chatham feels about their roster being posted?? It has been mentioned on here before that they don’t like to release their roster until just before the season starts.
It’s funny that you commented on those two things, Capeman.
As my son and I were discussing this latest addition, he said he thinks the league website is long overdue for a complete overhaul.
I mentioned to him that I bet John Schiffner is not thrilled about the roster being released this early. In the last few years, I’ve asked some people within the Chatham organization why they don’t make their roster available to the public earlier and I have always gotten the same answer. Schiffner tells them when they can post the roster. Last summer I was at a game and I asked someone in the Anglers organization about this. All he did was point to the dugout and say “It’s the way number 15 (Schiffner) wants it.” I’m sure he has his reasons. I’ve been told by a few folks that Schiffner doesn’t want other people (Team USA??) tampering with his roster. No one I have spoken to understands that rationale. Let’s face it, there are no secrets. If there is a talented player out there, everyone from Team USA to evaluators from every other college summer league knows about him. I don’t know if the reason Commissioner Galop published the rosters is to make things more uniform by having all team rosters posted by a certain date, or if there are other reasons. Whatever the reason, it is a very good thing.
Falmouth is working on a new design for their website. Maybe that is why they haven’t done anything recently with the present site. Here’s hoping that the league provides a new look to their website soon.
Aren’t rosters not “complete” yet since they have one try-out day before the season starts? What about the freshman ball players who begin in March and have a few months to be “noticed?”
How are rosters complete?
Tri
In a sense, rosters are “never” complete due to injuries, kids that never make it to the Cape because academic reasons, Team USA defections, etc. However, it is probably fair to say that the rosters as is are 95% set assuming none of those things happen…simply because you can’t predict if and when those things will happen.
There is a tryout but a very low percentage of those kids get signed and the high majority get signed as non-roster players who will take up a roster spot until the permanent players arrive from the college world series, etc.
Recruiting of freshmen happens before they even step onto a CBB field. Look around the rosters and you’ll see many, many freshman players and the CBB season doesn’t even start unil late next week. Some of them may get “noticed” and sign to fill in roster spots that open up but many of them have already signed with other summer leagues.
I wonder how many on the current CCBL 2010 rosters are also on the Baseball America preseason All-Americans list.
I see some former CCBLers on it (Juniors). I wonder if any of the sophomores are on CCBL rosters:
Danny Hultzen, Virginia
Gerrit Cole, UCLA
Rob Segedin, Tulane
I see Vollmuth on there.

Thank you CapeMan for the clarification on rosters. I am wondering how freshmen college players are “noticed” and on the roster if they haven’t even played in college yet?
I actually emailed a few of the Cape League managers and asked them that question, but never got a response. I guess I went too high up on the chain of command!
I am curious because I know a ball player who is just starting out in a 4-year college in Maine. I played a few tournaments with him this past summer and he is exceptional. He’s a shortstop. Best shortstop I’ve seen play the game.
I’m a huge Cape League fan and supporter so I’d like for that kid to at least be noticed. Anyone have any ideas?
Thank you

Tri-City: I’ll send an email with some information to you at the address you are using here on CodBall in just a few minutes. If anyone else wants to post their ideas as to how you might go about this and whom you should contact, feel free to do so here. I can’t promise that what I will pass along will help, but it may be a starting point for you. Good luck!
Tri-City…in some cases, GM’s are very well connected with MLB scouts who are scouting HS and college players and that is how they get noticed early by the Cape League. In addition, there is A LOT of trust between certain Cape League teams and college head coaches. You’ll notice that certain CCBL teams have players from many of the same schools year after year…North Carolina players in Chatham, Texas players in Wareham, Oregon State players in Falmouth, etc. These relationships are the foundation for the creation of the rosters year after year.
The kids at smaller schools are definately at a disadvantage but a good player is a good player and will get noticed if they are worthy to play at this level.
