Y-D’s Pries No-Hits Orleans
Yarmouth-Dennis righthander Jordan Pries tossed a no-hitter tonight while leading the Red Sox over host Orleans, 2-0. The Y-D win, combined with Hyannis beating Brewster, moves the Red Sox into a tie for first place in the East. The teams have identical 11-5 records. Pries struckout 4 and allowed 3 walks. He had a perfect game going through 6 innings. With Y-D scoring single runs in the third and sixth innings, Pries actually found himself in trouble in the seventh. He issued free passes to Kevin Muno and Danny Muno to start the inning but escaped unharmed after inducing a groundout, strikeout and a pop fly to the shortstop. Will Piwnica-Worms worked a walk to open the ninth. Kevin Muno was up next and he hit one back to Pries who started a 1-6-3...

I thought I was going to like the new Pointstreak statistics service. I’m glad I reserved the right to change my mind. There are some good features, but there are also some glitches. A few times I have checked the status of games and have seen the in-game report go from the 9th inning directly to the 13th inning… even when the game really did end in the 9th. Don’t know why that would happen, but I have seen it three or four times. As of this afternoon, the standings page shows that Falmouth and Harwich have played 14 games. This is because the Pointstreak in-game report shows that 20 hours after last night’s game began, the Commodores and Mariners are still only in the 6th inning. The game was never updated, thus the standings...

Eric Williams from the Cape Cod Times visited Red Wilson Field (Y-D) to chat with Bob Phillips about the sinker, hurler, and screamer burgers. Unfortunately there’s no talk about baseball, but this is one of the best interviews I have ever seen about the famous Cape League treat.

I had been looking forward to seeing Andrew Gagnon pitch and when I got that opportunity yesterday, Gagnon did not disappoint. The 6’4″ righthander from Long Beach State pitched a 7 inning complete game, allowing just one walk and two hits, in leading host Brewster past Hyannis, 1-0. Gagnon created some trouble for himself in the first inning when he gave up an infield single to leadoff batter Mark Micowski before hitting Zach Osborne and Jason Nappi to load the bases with one out. A groundball and a strikeout ended that opportunity for the Harbor Hawks and that would be the only time they threatened in this game. In the bottom of the first. Brewster’s Drew Martinez walked, stole second, and came around to score the only run of the game on a...

When your starting pitcher doesn’t give up a hit, your team is probably in good shape to pick up a win. Chatham’s Garrett Davis (UNC) did not allow a hit and the Anglers defeated Wareham, but the victory did not come easy. In a very entertaining game last night, Chatham added to Wareham’s early-season miseries as the Anglers escaped Spillane Field with a 6-5 win. Davis’ struggles began in the second inning when he walked Chris Walker and Max Muncy to start the frame. Tyler Bream helped Davis when he swung at what would have been ball four and popped to the shortstop. Davis proceeded to walk Robert Kral to load the bases. Chatham escaped unscathed when Derek Dennis ripped a 3-1 pitch that seemed to be ticketed for rightfield. Instead,...
