Day 7: East 5, West 0

pruitt.jpgToday is a rest day for everyone but Wareham at Brewster. And, boy, does the Western Division need a rest. Yesterday (Day 6), Eastern Division teams swept the Western Division. The Y-D Red Sox and their manager Scott Pickler continue to impress. The Red Sox extended their winning streak yesterday to six. They are undefeated at 6-0.

In fact, Pickler and his Red Sox have not lost a game since Aug. 11, 2006 when they lost Game 1 of the CCBL Championship to Wareham (Sunday is another rematch of these teams). So in fact their winning streak is 8-0 if you go back to last season. Last year, the Red Sox started out the season around .500 and then went on a winning streak. This year, they haven't slowed down.

Y-D leads the league in batting average at .305, followed by Western Division leader Bourne (3-2-1). Gordon Beckham is a key to Y-D's offense (.440 BA with 2 HRs). The Cape Cod Times has a nice feature on how he is quietly making a name for himself.

Pictured with this post is Andrew's photo of Brian Pruitt, an outfielder for Bourne, which leads the Western Division and is just behind Y-D in team batting average.

Well, the UC Irvine Anteaters are out of the College World Series. Sad, but welcome news for clubs like Brewster, Hyannis, Orleans and Wareham who are waiting for Anteater players. Rice and UNC play today to determine who goes home and who goes to the finals.
