Applachian State made history a few weeks ago by beating the once-mighty Michigan football team at home in the Big House. Now the Hyannis Mets have announced that former Applachian State outfielder and Young Harris Junior College coach Rick Robinson will take the helm a team that missed the 2007 playoffs by just one game. Young Harris' baseball program has produced a few prospects.
The Cape Cod Times broke the news this week.
Rick apparently is a motivational poet as well as a coach. Check out his verse on an Indiana University baseball website called "win with class." Click on "Reach out for Advice" to read his poem.
The Mets also announced that Bill Bussiere has been named the new GM and Rick Smedberg will serve as assistant GM.
CapeMan reported on Aug. 10th that the Cape Cod Times blog, which coincidently was written this summer by Bussiere's son and namesake (see 6/18 entry), had reported that Greg King was no longer the Mets field manager.
