Falmouth's Brandon Macias, a former Arizona State player who transfered to South Mountain Community College in Arizona, singled in the winning run during the 7th inning tonight to help the Falmouth Commodores beat the Bourne Braves in a season-ending tie-breaker for the Bourne Braves. Falmouth beat Bourne 3-2, and moves on to play Cotuit in the West playoffs tomorrow. Harwich will play Orleans in the East playoffs tomorrow.
With Bourne leading 2-1, Kevin Nolan (Winthrop) led off the 7th with single to right. Ryan Jones (Wichita) then walked and Michael Thomas (Southern) got out but advanced the runners. Macias then singled to left center and that was all that was needed. I believe Macias has been with the Falmouth club for just about 3 weeks.
Shaeffer Hall (Kansas) got the save for Falmouth. Falmouth's top closer, Ben Tootle, has been overworked during the final days of the season and so got a rest tonight.
There was a large and enthusiastic crowd on hand tonight in Falmouth. We sat on the Bourne side tonight where there was a little more room in the stands. I had a chance to congratulate both Falmouth and Bourne's GMs tonight.
Falmouth plays at Cotuit tomorrow at 3 pm. Harwich plays at Orleans at 7 pm.
