Wareham's John Wylde Dies After Heroic Battle

wyldeEDITOR'S NOTE: I received word by phone this morning of John's passing, and the media advisory below was issued today by the Cape Cod Baseball League. CodBall has devoted a lot of space and time to the words and wisdom of John Wylde. We encourage you to type his name into the search function of the blog to read the stories and interviews. All of us at CodBall mourn his passing and offer our thanks to his enormous contributions to baseball. I am very sad but also very appreciative. Media Advisory:

Veteran and distinguished Wareham Gatemen president and GM John Wylde, died early this morning after a long and heroic battle with cancer.

Wylde, who also served as head statistician and official scorer, official tryout coordinator, a Major League Baseball liaison and record-keeper in the Cape Cod Baseball League and driving force behind the Wareham Gatemen for the past quarter-century, died early this morning from liver cancer that was diagnosed in the fall of 2007. He was 70 years old.

No funeral service arrangements have been made yet.
