Nearly four years ago, Chris Coghlan (Chatham '05) received the 2005 Thurman Munson Batting Champion Award with a .346 season average. Last night, he set a Marlins record with 8 consecutive multi-hit games. Coghlan has worked his way quickly up the Marlins ladder after being drafted in the 1st round in 2006 (36th overall). As of last night, Coghlan is batting .288 with 84 hits, 27 RBIs, and 6 HRs.
Coghlan was one of my favorite players to watch last season for the AA Carolina Mudcats (now the Reds AA affiliate). This season he lit up the field for the AAA New Orleans Zephyrs, batting .344 through 25 games, before getting the call to the bigs.
2005 is shaping up to be an impressive year in terms of the the amount of talent making its way to the show. Who else was on the 2005 Chatham squad? Fellow Marlin Andrew Miller and somebody called Evan Longoria.
