Top Prospects from the Cape

by Greg in

This is the time of year when Baseball America publishes the Top 10 Prospects for each MLB division.  Like many of you, I enjoy scanning each player's background for references to his playing time on the Cape. Austin Wates, an outfield prospect for the Astros, "established himself as a prosect by hitting .312 with wood bats in the summer Cape Cod League in 2009."

Tyler Thornburg, a right-handed pitcher, is compared with another former Cape Leaguer, Tim Lincecum. "He impressed scouts as a closer in the Cape Cod League in the summer of 2009."

I remember watching right-handed pitcher Seth Blair, now a prosect with the St. Louis Cardinals. "He displayed start-to-start reliability" in the Cape League.

Jordan Swagerty, who I watched at Arizona State and in the Cape, is also a Cardinal top prospect.

There are plenty of other Cape League prospects called out in recent Baseball America issues, but these were a few of the most recent.

Who are your top prospects?
