Anglers Extend Whitecaps Slump

by Dave B.

Todd Czinege's (Villanova) homerun in the first inning held up as the only run of the game as Chatham ended their 3-game slide while extending Brewster's losing streak to 6 games.

T.J. Zeuch (Pittsburgh) started for Chatham and worked 5 solid innings, allowing 5 hits and issuing just one walk, while striking out 6.  Zeuch is now 2-0 and has not allowed an earned run over 10.2 innings.

Brandon Miller (Millersville) entered in the sixth and gave up just one hit over the next 3 innings.  Miller, recently signed to a permanent contract, fanned 5.  In the ninth, Andre Scrubb (High Point) worked around a two-out single by Brandon Gold (Georgia Tech), striking out the side to earn his second save.

Brewster out-hit Chatham, 7-4, and had 9 batters reach, but the Whitecaps stranded 7 baserunners and Anglers catcher Nick Sciortino (Boston College) threw out two others attempting to steal.

The Whitecaps threatened immediately when Colin Lyman (Louisville) lead off the game with a double and moved to third with one out.  Zeuch got Jack Meggs to ground out and struck out Nick Senzel to end the inning.  Brewster threatened again in the next inning when JC Escarra (Florida International) and Gold singled before an out was recorded.  A two-out walk loaded the bases but Lyman grounded out.  The Whitecaps left two more on in the fifth.

NOTES:  Czinege was released by Harwich on June 14 before being signed by Chatham....  Sciortino has thrown out 4 of 7 runners attempting to steal....  In a meeting of teams with matching 3-6 records, Yarmouth-Dennis travels to Stony Brook Field to take on Brewster at 5:00 this evening.  Chatham will host Cotuit at 7:00.
